Mainstream media is always pushing the narrative that a vegetarian diet is better for our health and the environment. This is in fact not true. Let’s debunk some of the vegetarian myths:
- Vegetables can supply all dietary needs: Vitamin B12, A, D and Cholesterol are essential for our health and can only be found in animal foods
- Eating meat is environmentally unsustainable: While it is true that a piece of land can produce more plant than animal food. 2/3 of the Earth’s dry land is unsuitable for farming, meaning it’s better used as pastures for grazing animals. Also, monoculture agriculture (using artificial fertilizers and pesticides) is destructive to the soil and leads to desertification.
- Eating meat is inhumane: The natural life cycle dictates that creatures are always eaten, even humans die and are eaten by soil bacteria/fungi. Mono-crop agriculture also causes many animals living on that land to die.
- Meat eaters tend to be aggressive: No evidence to support that. In fact many vegetarians tend to become irrationally angry due to lack of Vitamin B12
- Paleo “cave man” diet was low fat/vegetarian: Weston A. Price’s worldwide exploration of ancient cultures, not one vegetarian culture was discovered. In fact the happiest and strongest cultures were heavy meat eaters, while legume/grain heavy people had more dental decay.
