Is salt bad for you?

The many benefits of salt

Modern official dietary advice vilifies salt, but does not mention sugar, processed foods or vegetable oils. What do the studies actually show:

Salt in an essential nutrient for many body functions, especially cellular signaling

Reduced salt intake leads your body to go into a sympathetic (stress state) to hold onto salt

This stress state leads to increased: Cardiovascular mortality, cognitive decline and insulin resistance

  • What about blood pressure (BP)?

Studies show that salt increases BP in only 20% of people. In 30% it actually lowers BP and in 50% of people it has no effect.

  • So how much salt do you need?

Very high salt intake is bad for your cardiovascular system. However, our natural salt cravings prevent us from consuming such large amounts.

  • My advice: Trust your tastebuds and salt food according to taste.
